This being my third year at the Del Close Marathon, I thought I'd impart some limited, albeit valuable, wisdom to new-comers, out-of-towners, and the socially-inept - in that order. Most of the stuff is obvious.
I HOPE I'M NOT TOO LATE!
This is all genuine advice based on a real desire to help out, mixed with hatred for stupid behavior and spiced with abundant fatigue which, in my case, results in extra bitterness. Please, Dig in.

*KEY* - for convenience

o Tourists
o A-holes
Remember that you could be
any combination of the three
so best read 'em all.

General:
-Drink Lots of Water if you're in it for the long haul and in general.
-Stay out late - at least till 3 or 4 - you can sleep when you're back in Toronto.
-Deflate your head before you enter the theater - there's limited standing-space as is.
Food:
-Have regular meals, bring healthy, inoffensive snacks.
-Try going to 9th ave for some interesting eats - there are some quick places like BrGr on 7th.
-Don't bring Chipotle and eat it during a show, you weirdo.
Social Stuff:
-Have fun, meet new people.
-Try introducing yourself to the NYC'ers, share some stories - they don't bite.
-Avoid being a starfucker or doing something starfucky - no really, seriously, I mean it.
Sleep:
-Get sleep whenever possible, just not too early if you're at the theater - or some embarrassing photos might come out of it. If you need 'em, HiBall's are better than Redbulls, in my opinion. Vitamins and supplements might be a good idea if you catch colds easily. I'm not a doctor.
-Book a room some time in advance, and check to see if hotels have DCM discounts.
-Don't use your lack of resting place as an opportunity to be a starfucker - Sorry to say it again but you don't seem to be GETTING IT.
Workshops:
-Take one.
-Take two.
-Go away.
What To Catch:
-The must-sees are never a sure thing. Big names are usually good but don't forget to see the late shows and indie teams - that's what the marathon is all about and you might actually be pleasantly surprised.
-The must-sees are your best bet because, after all, that's what you came here for. Get to the theater before cleanings so that, when it's emptied, you can have a good pick of the seats. (Buy tickets for special shows at least two weeks in advance.)
-Swing by the after party - make things more interesting - but leave early (in a cab) so we can start making fun of you for the next year.
